Butterfly on Leaves

Butterfly on leaves, originally uploaded by lyndaspix2004.

I shot this photo in March at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Isn’t he/she pretty? If you ever get a chance to visit the Desert Botanical Garden you really should take advantage of it. Try to go around mid-March to see all the flowers blooming! The Butterfly Exhibit cost a little extra, but was well worth the price, especially if you like to take pictures!

There are special exhibits and tours year round if you have a specific interest. Right now there is a group of expert birders who do a Monday morning walk along the trails and point out all the various species of birds that you find in this desert paradise! They also have a flashlight tour that is especially nice if you’d like to tour the garden after dark (much preferable in the summertime if you don’t tolerate heat well).

I’m looking forward to the Mariposa Monarch Butterfly exhibit that begins in September!!

There is so much to see and do at the Desert Botanical Garden!! Check it out for yourself if you are visiting, and especially if you live here! It’s truly a magical place!

P.S. Clevergirl, who teaches photography, suggested some edits that I could make to improve my photo. Below is the result of my attempt at implementing the improvments.

  1. I like how the shape of the wings repeats in the leaves. If anything, all I would do to change it is place the butterfly a little more off-center. Probably a shift off to the right to emphasize the shape of the leaves repeating.

  2. Nope, I haven’t tried selling any of my photos…yet. I have used some as gifts and for custom greeting/note cards.

    Maybe I’ll check into it.
